There are a few key differences between clear aligners and traditional fixed braces. Clear aligners are made from clear, stain resistance materials that are virtually invisible. In addition, they are removable, making it easier for you to brush and floss your teeth and do not prevent you from enjoying your favorite meals or snacks. Being made from biocompatible thin plastic with carefully polished edges they are also more comfortable to wear.
By precisely adapting to your teeth, clear aligners gently and gradually push your teeth into their more ideal position. You would wear each aligner set for 22 hours a day for 14 days before switching to the next aligner, this would give each set ample time to gently shift your teeth into their desired position.
The specific timeline depends on the extent and complexity of your smile transformation journey. You should wear each aligner set for 22 hours a day for 14 days before moving on to the next aligner set.
Clear aligners work by applying a slight controlled pressure on your teeth moving them towards their ideal position, and due to this pressure some patients experience discomfort and slight tooth soreness for a few days at the start of each new aligner set. This is normal and indicative of the fact that the aligners are engaged with your teeth and are working. If the discomfort did not improve within a few days of wearing your new aligners, contact your dentist immediately.
When you first begin using your aligners, you might notice a slight lisp when speaking, but as soon as your tongue gets used to this new object the lisp goes away quickly. Some patients do not notice any changes in their speech at all.
It is not recommended to eat while wearing your clear aligners, simply remove them prior to your meal and place them back after brushing and flossing your teeth. You may drink water, unsweetened and cold drinks while wearing your aligners, but you should remove them when consuming hot, sweetened, acidic or alcoholic drinks as they might damage your aligners.
Clean your aligners each time after removing them from your mouth with a soft-bristle toothbrush and cool water and store them in the protective case provided to you. If you do not have access to a toothbrush, simply wash them with hand soap and cool water.
At the end of your smile transformation journey your teeth have the tendency to move towards their original position. Our goal is to prevent this and help you maintain your new smile. At the end of your clear aligner treatment, you will receive a free set of retainers that we recommend wearing for as long as you would like to maintain your new smile.
